New Perforated Plate Silencer for Fresh Air & Heat Recovery Systems – Quiet Ducts, No Compromise on Airflow

2026-09-04 · by GUANDE

Fan noise traveling through ductwork is one of the most common complaints in modern ventilation. In fresh air systems and heat recovery (ERV / HRV) units, the supply and exhaust fans generate continuous airborne noise that spreads from room to room through the duct network.

Our Perforated Plate Silencer is an aerodynamic duct silencer purpose-built for fresh air ventilation and heat recovery systems. It delivers effective broadband noise attenuation with very low pressure drop — typically 10–30 Pa at rated airflow — so your system stays quiet and efficient.

How It Works — Core Technology & Working Principle

The silencer is a duct-mounted unit whose core is a precisely perforated plate assembly inside an acoustically engineered housing. Sound passing through the duct enters the perforations, where acoustic energy is dissipated and reflected, while the airstream passes through with minimal disturbance.

Three mechanisms work together:

  • Acoustic energy dissipation — sound waves entering the small perforations lose energy through air-particle friction, converting noise into heat;

  • Impedance mismatch & reflection — at the perforated plate boundary, part of the sound is reflected back upstream, weakening the noise travelling downstream;

  • Aerodynamic duct design — the hole pattern and chamber geometry are tuned so air flows smoothly, keeping pressure loss low.

The design targets the mid-to-high frequency range where fan blade-pass noise and duct turbulence dominate, with insertion loss of up to 20 dB across the 250–4000 Hz band. Because the perforated plate shields the internal acoustic media from direct airflow, performance stays stable over years of continuous operation — no media erosion, no fiber shedding into the supply airstream.

Where It Works — Typical Applications

Engineered for any ducted air system where fan noise must be controlled without sacrificing airflow:

  • Fresh air / ventilation systems — supply and exhaust ducts in apartments, villas and commercial buildings;

  • Heat recovery units (HRV / ERV) — attenuate fan noise on both fresh-air and exhaust-air branches;

  • Offices, schools, hotels, hospitals — keep occupied spaces below target NC levels;

  • Cleanrooms and laboratories — noise control with zero fiber shedding into the airstream.

In a typical ERV installation, two silencers are fitted — one on the fresh-air supply branch and one on the exhaust branch — cutting transmitted fan noise while preserving the static pressure the recovery core needs to operate efficiently.
